People do not like coming home from a trip to find a high roaming bill. After facing the same problem, two former Adyen engineers started Firsty in 2023.
In June 2026, Firsty was named eSIM Provider of the Year at the MVNOs World Awards. Winning the award in Amsterdam, the city where Firsty started, made the moment even more special for the team.
Firsty was created to make staying connected abroad easier. Travellers can activate its eSIM in a few minutes without changing their physical SIM card or signing a long contract. A free, ad-supported option is also available.
According to the company, its service is available in more than 185 countries, supports international calls to over 200 destinations and has more than 1.2 million users.
Today, Firsty is more than a travel app. The company says its technology is also used in products from Uber, Grab, Belfius and Mastercard.
Businesses can use the Firsty platform to add mobile data, calls and local phone numbers to their own apps. They can then offer these services under their own brand.
Firsty brings together more than 600 local mobile operators on one platform. This means a business does not need to make separate agreements with many operators or build a complete telecom system. Firsty says a new partner can launch its service in around two weeks.
The award shows how far Firsty has come. It started by solving a common problem for travellers and has grown into a platform that helps businesses bring connectivity into the digital services people use every day.
For AVASIM, this progress shows why simple and flexible eSIM solutions matter. AVASIM aims to help operators and businesses adopt secure, scalable and locally supported connectivity technologies.
